Mrs. Brisby, a widowed mouse, lives in a cinder block with her children on the Fitzgibbon farm. In a futuristic Japan, an outbreak of canine influenza spreads throughout the (fictitious) city of Megasaki with the risk of becoming contagious to humans. The city's authoritarian mayor, Kenji Kobayashi, ratifies an official decree banishing all dogs to Trash Island, which is immediately approved d …espite the insistence of Professor Watanabe, the mayor's political opponent who states he is close to creating a cure for the dog flu. The first canine deported from the city is a white and black-spotted dog named Spots Kobayashi, who served as the bodyguard dog of 12-year-old orphan Atari Kobayashi, the mayor's distant nephew and ward.
Six months later, Atari hijacks a plane and flies it to Trash Island (now nicknamed "Isle of Dogs") to search for Spots. After crash-landing, Atari is rescued by a dog pack led by an all-black canine named Chief, a lifelong stray. With their help Atari first finds a locked cage that presumably contains Spots' skeleton, but learns that it is not him. They then fend off a rescue team sent by Mayor Kobayashi to retrieve Atari. Atari decides to continue his search for Spots, and the pack decides to help him, but Chief declines because of his refusal to have a human "master". He is then convinced by Nutmeg, a female ex-show dog, to help the boy out of obligation. Offseason, the new film from writer/director Mickey Keating (Pod, Carnage Park) opens with Ava Aldrich (Melora Walters, The Accursed, The Pale Door) addressing the viewer in a scene that recalls Marianna Hill's warning at the start of Messiah of Evil.. That film invo …lved a woman's trip to a touristy coastal town in search of her missing and presumed dead father, Offseason opens with Marie Aldrich (Jocelin Donahue, All the Creatures Were Stirring, House of the Devil) heading to the touristy island where Ava is buried. It seems her grave was desecrated and her presence is required to remedy it.. As she and George (Joe Swanberg, Lace Crater, The Sacrament) arrive their trip is almost derailed. It seems the drawbridge to the island is raised during the offseason and the Bridge Man (Richard Brake, The Numbers Station, Tremors: Shrieker Island) only relents and lowers it after finding out why she's there. He also warns them that after tomorrow it'll be locked until spring.. Keating opens Offseason with tons of atmosphere and nods to not just Messiah of Evil but long shots of highways stretching across the ocean that recalls Fulci's The Beyond. Forrest Taft is an environmental agent who works for the Aegis Oil Company in Alaska. Aegis Oil's corrupt CEO, Michael Jennings, is the kind of person who doesn't care whether or not oil spills into the ocean or onto the land, just as long as it's making money for him. He even makes commercials that … make him look like he cares about the environment. Jennings is almost finished with building his new state-of-the art oil rig: AEGIS-1. The problem is that if he doesn't finish building the rig in thirteen days, the land rights will be returned to the Eskimos and the Alaskan government. When Jennings finds out that Taft's best friend Hugh Palmer has a computer disk that contains information about defective equipment on AEGIS-1, he sends out his goons to murder Palmer. When Taft tries to interfere, Jennings tries to kill Taft. But an Eskimo woman named Masu, who introduces Taft to her father Silook, the chief of her tribe, rescues Taft. When his lightning bolt is stolen, Zeus accuses Poseidon's son Percy Jackson and gives Poseidon's son fourteen days to return it, otherwise he will initiate a war amongst the gods.
